When Listing Your Home

What is a realtor’s favorite expression? Declutter! While listing your home, your realtor will generally give you tips for staging and making your home look sale-ready. Here are some tips from homeowners and how Corrigan Moving can support!

  1. Boxes for decluttering! Were you aware that Corrigan customers may receive free used boxes when scheduling their move*? If available, our customers can get various sized boxes at no charge. Our offices also carry an assortment of supplies for purchase, such as tape, packing paper and bubble wrap. Begin packing and decluttering before your realtor takes your home pictures to make your house stand out in the pictures. Lots of our customers reach out to Corrigan and reserve a move date ahead of listing their homes for this reason. Move dates can be adjusted once your house is under contract, so take advantage of as many advantages as you are able!
  2. Garage a mess? Wardrobe boxes can help! Wardrobe boxes are tall and large, perfect for holding bulky items. Leave the top of the wardrobe box open to organize and store long handled yard tools, sports equipment, and children’s toys. This will make your garage appear and bigger with little effort! 3. Fix your walls like a professional. If you have small nail holes or painted walls needing to be touched up, be sure to do repair work prior to your real-estate pictures. Needing to match paint colors? With a small knife (be careful!), shallowly cut a quarter size hole from the top layer of paint. It is best to do this from a discreet spot, such as behind furniture or a low corner. Take that small paint piece to your local hardware store or paint shop, where they are likely to match your paint color exactly. With a drywall patch kit, touch up your holes and then paint with your perfectly matched touch up paint. Good as new! Here is a sample demonstration of how to get the perfect paint sample.

During Showings

Once your home is on the market, you will spend time away to allow buyers go through and visualize themselves living there. Many homeowners who have used Corrigan Moving have given us tips that make the time away during showings easier.

  1. Pack a suitcase. During showings, many homeowners prefer to have their valuables and personal documents secure. A number of customers have found packing a small suitcase with these items to be an easy way to grab and go at the time of a showing.
  2. Find a local pet daycare. Dogs and cats will also need a place to stay during showings. Finding a local doggy daycare or daily pet care facility is a great solution to keep your animals happy and safe.
  3. Entertain the kiddos! Parents know getting youngsters out the door can be a small undertaking. Packing a bag with small toys, games or art supplies can be a great way to keep kids entertained and happy when frequently leaving the home.
  4. Free, free, free! Find free ways to pass time during showings. When showings are planned back-to-back, you are likely to find yourself away for hours at a time. Visiting your local park, farmers market, or libraries are free and easy ways to pass the time. If you are moving nearby, try booking a guided tour of your new city. Even if you’re no stranger with your new town, you might be surprised by learning new and noteworthy history!

Offer: Accepted!

Congratulations! Now that your home is under contract, the real work begins. If you have not contacted Corrigan Moving yet for a free in-home or virtual estimate, now’s the time! Your local sales representative will create a custom move quote based on the services you’re wanting. Following are some things to take into consideration before your move consultation.

  1. Determine who’s packing. Corrigan Moving provides full packing service. We also offer packing on a smaller scale, such as boxing up only mattresses, china or fragile items. 2. Decide what is you are moving. Establishing a list of items to move ahead of your move survey is essential to getting an accurate estimate. The sales representative will go room by room throughout your home in order to get a complete and inclusive inventory to accurately estimate the extent of your relocation. Your move inventory can always be changed, nonetheless you’ll want to have an understanding of what items you want handled by Corrigan.
  3. Research donation locations. For those items you prefer to donate, investigate local thrift stores and secondhand shops. Many offer free pickup services for donated furniture, remember these can be booked weeks ahead. Plan ahead and schedule a donation pickup prior to the move date. Corrigan is proud to support Habitat for Humanity, who has several locations offering free donation pick up.
  4. Learn what can and cannot be moved. Moving companies cannot transport items such as chemicals, gasoline containers or anything caustic (a comprehensive list of prohibited items can be found here). Your city may have resources or a local return drive where they will accept hazardous items and electronics for proper disposal. Waste Management has more details on properly disposing your hazardous household items.
